Update – 4 songs added to album “Songs for the Daily Commute”
After acquiring the NanoStudio app for my iPhone, I’ve had some fun recording new projects on the train the past couple weeks. I added the songs “Stopped” “Tunnels” Debris on the Tracks” and “Friday“
NanoStudio is an impressive electronic music studio for iPhone and iPad- highly recommended.
Enjoy!
New Album Posted “Songs for the Daily Commute”
I just posted my newest collection of songs on Bandcamp for your audible consumption. “Songs for the Daily Commute” is comprised of 8 songs all of which were created on my iPhone or iPad, in transit to or from work. I have created these songs over the past couple months and decided they warranted some attention. In effort to remain creative during a particuarly busy time in my life, I have been using my daily commute as an outlet to jot down ideas on my mobile devices as well as document some of my observations while riding the train each day. I hope you enjoy it. As usual.. more to come soon!

New Track Posted: “The Brain is Recording”
http://jasonhutchings.bandcamp.com/track/the-brain-is-recording
Re-edit of the song as of 10/23/11: Check out the first track of many to be posted from my new album “Diversions.” The track is called “The Brain is Recording” and has vocal samples of Carl Jung, Krishnamurti, and Alan Watts. I used a lot of synth sounds from my iPad “Korg” app and the “Funk Box” drum machine app. I also used the “iTanpura” app from the iPhone to create an ambient drone in the background. Keep checking back for more! Enjoy!

Today’s Featured Track: “T.S. Fay” by Zweiback
Today’s featured track, “TS Fay,” is one of my favorites from my musical side project with Ryan Boddy, who plays drums in our band “Zweiback.” This project started back in 2008 with our first Self-titled EP.
The songs sounded gritty because we were recording all basic foundational tracks with the mic in my macbook (IE low quality). I would then go home and layer guitars and keyboards over the initial recording to spruce it up. Our second EP, “It’s All a Blur,” was recorded in my home studio so there was much more control over sound levels and all tracks were recorded in a balanced fashion.
Ok, so I lived in South Florida for four years and NO hurricane. Every time a tropical storm would come through we would partially brace ourselves/ partially wish we could experience living through a hurricane. Anyway.. it became a joke because these tropical storms were LAME. Tons of warnings, people buying food they didn’t need, places closing… and then nothing. This song is not only an homage to Tropical Storm Fay but to all those tropical storms that never developed into the raging hurricane we thought they would. So this track makes me laugh when I listen to it for all of the above reasons, not to mention the epic-ness of the track juxtaposed by the weakness of the actual storm “TS Fay.”
If you listen to the track right before TS Fay entitled “The Runs,” (given this name for all the musical “runs” throughout the song) you will hear that the ending of the song leads right into “TS Fay.” Actually the initial riff of TS Fay is within the track “The Runs” at around 1:50.
This track is a little different in that I used my Takamine acoustic guitar for most of the guitar sections. I put some gritty distortion and overdrive on it as well. The overdubbed guitar in the right and left speaker is my Gibson SG with a ton of epic reverb. Left of center is my bass overdubbed with an auto wah filter, which gives it that pop. Ryan Boddy rages on the drums in the center tracks.
My favorite part of the song is the last 20 seconds or so with the abrupt ending. Enjoy!
